James Boldt, Attorney

Since 2005, Jim Boldt has specialized in family law. Prior to 2005, he practiced municipal law, criminal law, administrative law, family law, personal injury law, bankruptcy, workers compensation.

Mr. Boldt graduated from Southern Oregon University ( cum laude ) in interdisciplinary studies) in 1972 and then graduated from Willamette College of Law ( Salem, OR ) in 1975.

He is admitted to practice law before the

Mr. Boldt is a retired J.A.G. officer in the U.S. Army, having served 3 years active duty ( enlisted ) and 21 years as an active reservist ( 2 years enlisted, 19 years commissioned officer ). He has served in California, Germany, Georgia, Korea, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Panama. In addition, he also served at Ft. Lewis ( now JBLM---Joint Base Lewis – McChord ), including as Director of Legal Assistance on reserve weekends.

Mr. Boldt’s office has been at the same location since 2005, at the time he took over the practice of retiring attorney Kathleen McCormick.

Mr. Boldt:

  • Counsels clients
  • Appears in court ( hearings on motions, trials, settlement conferences, ex parte motions, agreed orders, status conferences, pre-trial conferences, etc. )
  • Negotiates settlement of cases with other attorneys
  • Researches new, doubtful, or disputed points of law
  • Prepares legal memoranda
  • Interviews major witnesses for trials
  • Attends depositions
  • Prepares ( and modifies as needed along the way ) the overall plan ( information-gathering, timing, decision-points, alternatives, and for each case ), prepares documents ( requiring original attorney analysis or composition )
  • Gives overall supervision to his legal assistant

Mr. Boldt is familiar with all major aspects of family law ( and many unusual aspects as well ).

The Staff ( Amy )

While the office has occasional supplementary legal assistants, the primary Legal Assistant in this office is Amy. She is a member of the Washington Paralegal Association and has been with Jim since 2006.

Like Jim, she works exclusively in family law.

Amy:

  • Works with clients to answer ( a ) administrative questions and ( b ) questions as directed by Jim ( either generally in specified areas or specifically as to an individual matter )
  • Prepares state mandated forms,
  • Initiates and responds to all telephone calls,
  • Obtains records,
  • Interviews minor witnesses for trials
  • Schedules meetings, depositions, pre-trial conferences, status conferences,
  • Prepares most of the correspondence,
  • Drafts many of the documents that are not the subject of state mandated forms, --assists Jim in reviewing and preparing interrogatories and requests for production,
  • Handles most of the office financial transactions,
  • Handles day-to-day administrative matters
  • Sets appointments
